GW-MOUNT VERNON ATHLETIC COMPLEX
The GW-Mount Vernon Athletics Facility opened in 2001 and is home to the GW soccer, lacrosse, tennis and softball teams. The facility includes a synthetic turf surface for soccer and lacrosse which was renovated in summer 2011, a softball diamond which was renovated in summer 2015, a six-lane, 25-yard outdoor pool and 11 hard courts for tennis.
In addition to coaching offices and on-site locker rooms for home and visiting teams, a fully-staffed athletic training room also is housed in the facility.
In 2004, the venue played host to the Atlantic 10 Men's Soccer Championship for the first time. A record crowd of 811 spectators attended the title match on Nov. 14, 2004, and saw GW knock off Temple, 2-0, to win its second conference championship in three seasons. The Mount Vernon facility also played host to the Atlantic 10 Women's Lacrosse Championship for the first time in league history in May 2006, and again hosted the A-10 Lacrosse Championship in 2015. In 2016, the Mount Vernon facility hosted the A-10 Softball Championship, hosting multiple televised games broadcast by American Sports Network for the first time in program history.
The facilities are used for intercollegiate team practices and competitions, student club team practices and competitions, intramural and recreational activities, as well as occasional university and other special events.
